On September 30th, in celebration of the International Day of Non-Violence, the Peace Center in Los Angeles invited Mr. Pranav Desai, the Founder of VOSAP (Voice of Specially Abled People) as a guest speaker.
The event also featured other distinguished speakers including Professor Lis Leitz, Shri VijayaLakshmi ji, Dr. Abhishek Jain, Dr. Pranav Shah, and Rev. Robert Wright, each contributing their insights on the importance of peace and its multiplier effect in society.
Mr. Pranav Desai, a visionary and tireless advocate for social change, delivered an enlightening address on the topic of “Peace Multiplier with VOSAP.” In his speech, he passionately articulated the key factors that disrupt our peace, the means by which we can collectively achieve greater peace for ourselves and the communities we live in, and the vital role that VOSAP plays in this endeavor by empowering individuals to become catalysts for peace, or ‘Nimitt.’
Below is the audio Speech of Mr. Pranav Desai that he addressed during the event:
We all know what PEACE is and how much important it is for everyone. Think for a moment that what takes away “PEACE” from anyone?
1. Financial problems
2. Uncertainty about the future
3. Health concerns
4. Relationship problems, acceptance in society, school, friends
5. Dependence on others
6. Work issues
7. Exclusion/Discrimination
8. Physical limitations with age or some injury?
9. Hunger
10. Violence, wars etc. that results in grief and losses and adding to population of
people with disability.
Well – think of a life of a person with disabilities…not just one or 2 but many of these situations, they live their life everyday. While PEACE is a journey and not a milestone, for 1 billion plus people on planet earth, PEACE is far from their reach.
Of course, these situations increase the stress levels, anxiety, worries and frustration that take away their PEACE of mind. Not only individuals with disabilities but also their family members share the same situations.
A. We at VOSAP decided to help disabled community by empowering them, providing them opportunity learn with innovative assistive devices, earn and move around with such devices to live independently with dignity. So far 19,000 such people have benefitted by VOSAP in last 6.5 years, where thousands of them came out of poverty, started working, gaining confidence and around 100,000 people found HOPE and happiness. Yes, we became NIMITT to bring smile on their faces.
Certainly, it reduces entire family’s stress, and increase their PEACE of MIND with more surety of future for their loved one with disabilities. This is the MULTIPLIER we see!
Let me share 1 recent example – 3 blind brothers and father working as a farm laborer in tribal Orissa, received KIBO XS device from VOSAP. This assistive device translates 60 languages, reads books for blind people and lot more. He prepared for Orissa Public Service Commission exams and passed it successfully! He is joining as Assistant Collector now and this has transform not only his life but entire family will be out of poverty, more confident, hopeful and less worried for future, less stress that will bring inner calmness, PEACE to entire family.
C. How can we all achieve more PEACE for ourselves and for people around us in society?
We all want PEACE in our life, so by volunteering with VOSAP, serving the disabled community, our volunteers found fulfilment and happiness, and also reduce the stress levels.
More importantly, engaging with disabled people, helps in 2 ways.
1. Positive energy from Persons with Disabilities reduces our stress – for example: Sparsh as a motivational person. He has helped many people turning their life from being -ve to +ve.
2. Looking at the sufferings of a Person with disabilities also helps us count our blessings for what we have and have more gratitude which leads into accepting your situation that further reduces the stress and takes away any remote possibility of depression.
Let us all become NIMITT to spread PEACE in society with VOSAP multiplier.
As we commemorate the International Day of Non-Violence, Mr. Pranav Desai’s words resonate as a powerful reminder that peace is not an abstract concept but a tangible goal within our reach, one that we can collectively achieve through compassion, empathy, and dedicated service to others.
