Dhoniya Reshmaben Ramjanbhai, a 43-year-old resident of Halvad, has always been a hopeful and resilient. Despite living with locomotor disability of 75%, Reshmaben has never let her physical challenges deter her spirit. For years, she diligently worked on an old sewing machine, managing to earn 5,000 to 6,000 INR per month. Alongside her sewing work, she also offered sewing classes, imparting her skills to two eager students.
In May 2023, Reshmaben’s life took a significant turn when she received a new sewing machine at Voice of SAP’s (VOSAP) enablement event in Halvad. This machine was not just a piece of equipment; it was a gateway to a brighter and more prosperous future.
Within days of receiving the sewing machine, Reshmaben’s productivity soared. She now dedicates 3-4 hours each day, seven days a week, to her work. The immediate impact of the new sewing machine was evident in her income, which doubled to an impressive 10,000 to 12,000 INR per month. The enhanced efficiency and ease of use provided by the new machine allowed her to take on more sewing projects and deliver higher-quality work.
The benefits of the new sewing machine extended beyond just her personal earnings. Reshmaben was able to expand her sewing classes significantly. With her increased income, she invested in three additional sewing machines. This expansion enabled her to run training sessions in three different batches, empowering more women in her community with valuable sewing skills. The number of her students has grown, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and self-sufficiency.
Reshmaben’s story is a testament to the profound impact that supportive initiatives like those of VOSAP can have on the lives of specially abled individuals. The sewing machine provided by VOSAP has not only improved Reshmaben’s financial stability but also amplified her ability to contribute to her community. She has transitioned from being a skilled worker to a thriving entrepreneur and mentor, fostering a sense of independence and hope among other women in Halvad.
Reshmaben’s narrative is a powerful example of how providing the right tools and support can lead to significant, life-changing empowerment for specially abled individuals, allowing them to not only improve their own lives but also uplift their communities.
