Effective participation of people with disability / NGOs working in disability sector in 2014 Loksabha elections.
It gives us immense pleasure to write to you with an appeal to strengthen our voice across the country by exercising our right to vote in the upcoming elections. We are reaching out to thousands of NGOs with this appeal as we firmly believe that in democracy, our voice will be heard by the policy makers only if we all are determined to participate in the democratic process by going to the polling booth. Together, we are 6-8% population of India – approx upto 10 crore people, we could be 10th largest nation in the world but when we look at the rights – even basic rights of education, there is absolute ignorance. Specially Abled people are not only facing challenging life due to some type of disability but also are suffering lack of education, lack of employment, social stigma and violation of several human rights especially of women and children in the rural India. We must and can change this reality by coming together as a determined force.
