Semahin Vikash Kendra, an initiative of rural development in West Bengal, was born out of a need for information activism and networking among grassroots organisations working towards the empowerment of women. In order to provide a good flow of information, a documentation and information centre has been created. Today ours main efforts are aimed at documenting the lives of rural people in West Bengal and health issues. The collection contains a special section of training manuals. SVK was established as a forum for adivasi indigenous people’s movements. Its objective is to strengthen the process of building solidarity and alliances amongst struggle oriented indigenous people’s organizations. It’s comprised of a group of professionals working for the re-alization of women’s equality and development in all spheres of life. The centre maintains collection on women and development in India, open to students, research scholars, gender consultants, policy makers, journalists etc.
